Financial Accountant - 14 month FTC

Here’s Why We Need you (aka job purpose)

 

We want our Financial Accountant to deliver accurate and insightful financial reporting across Sunlife. You’ll provide systems and controls to enable us to make informed decisions in a risk-based environment. You’ll take a lead role in managing payment of our suppliers.

 

Here’s what you’ll do for us (aka accountabilities)

 

1.      You’ll support a strong financial control environment for accounting and operational processes covering P&L, Balance Sheet and Cashflow

2.      You’ll contribute to financial risk management in line with risk policies to maximise the balance of risk and reward

3.      You’ll deliver monthly committee reports and other regular and ad hoc analysis, with focus on financial technical accuracy of results and appropriate reflection of business performance, risks and opportunities

4.      You’ll support the budgeting and forecasting processing, delivering the consolidation of budgets and forecasts on a timely basis

5.      You’ll provide proactive guidance on accounting and challenge and support on cost management

6.      You’ll develop an in depth knowledge of our third party accounting system and take the lead role in ensuring that suppliers are paid correctly and on time

7.      You’ll fully understand the sources of our financial inputs and dependencies and challenge and improve processes.

8.      You’ll highlight accounting and process impacts from business changes and collaborate to make appropriate modifications 

9.      You’ll work effectively with internal and external audit

5.      You’ll be the “go to” person for supplier payments and cost queries

6.      End to end processes will be fully understood, fit-for-purpose and enable easy navigation

7.      You’ll build positive relationships across your stakeholder group – people will know who you are!

8.      Accounts and monthly reporting will be submitted on time 

9.      You’ll help build positive and constructive relationships with our auditors

What we want you to bring to the table (aka skills and experience)

 

•      You’ll be a qualified Accountant with several years post qualification experience

•      You’ll have a track record in management accounting, reporting, budgeting, forecasting, risk management and controls

•      You’ll have commercial understanding with knowledge of cost and profit drivers and key business KPIs development

•      You can build strong and collaborative relationships across the business 

•      Strong organisational and prioritisation skills and flexibility to manage changing deadlines are a must

•      A process mindset with past experience of systems, process development and streamlining

•      An enquiring approach, not afraid to challenge approaches and behaviours and question where data and assumptions come from.
